Docs Load from file Word document
01
Open the file importer
Start from the New guide panel.

From the Sessions dashboard, click + New guide in the left sidebar. In the creation panel, select Load from file, then choose Word document.

02
Prepare your Word document
Use Word's built-in heading styles for best results.

For Pigeon to correctly detect your sections, your Word document should use proper Heading styles (Heading 1 or Heading 2) rather than manually bolded or enlarged text. In Word, you can apply these from the Styles panel on the Home tab.

  • Heading 1 / Heading 2 → become guide section titles
  • Normal body text below each heading → becomes section content
  • Tables, images, and complex formatting are stripped on import
Only .docx format is supported. If you have an older .doc file, open it in Word and use Save As to convert it first.
03
Upload your file
Drag and drop or browse.

Drag your .docx file onto the upload area, or click Browse to select it. Pigeon will parse the document and extract the content.

04
Review the imported sections
Edit anything that needs tidying up.

After import you'll see your document content broken into sections in the guide editor. Each section title should match your document headings, with the body text below as content.

Common things to tidy up after a Word import:

  • Remove any preamble or cover page content that imported as an extra section
  • Combine sections that are very short (a single sentence or less)
  • Rewrite any overly formal or document-style language into how you'd actually say it in a session
